Expansion of Ultra-Orthodox Communities in Northern Israel

A 30-page report by the Lithuanian gmach Yad Shimon highlights a growing trend among ultra-Orthodox communities to settle in Israel's peripheral areas, particularly in the north. These communities significantly impact the local real estate market, often purchasing entire blocks of 80 to 100 apartments. The report notes that while living in these new communities comes with challenges, such as distance and unfamiliar surroundings, it remains the most accessible solution for many young yeshiva graduates. This move to the periphery is seen as a practical response to the need for affordable housing, while providing a social and institutional framework aligned with the community's values.
